Jessica Ballard-Barnett is a lifelong Indianapolis resident. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Purdue University and her J.D. from McKinney Law School - Indiana University. She is currently a Judicial Law Clerk for the Indiana Court of Appeals. Jessica is committed to maintaining the excellence of SENSE Charter School and facilitating improvement as the school matures. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Erik, and their daughters, Mallory, a current SENSE student, and Veronica and Artemis, who are looking forward to attending SENSE in the future.
Alex has lived in Indianapolis since graduating from the school of education at IUPUI. He also holds a graduate degree from Butler University, and currently works as a writer and producer for Well Done Marketing in Fountain Square. He lives on the city’s near east side where he has volunteered at Brookside Elementary School through the Second Story creative writing program.
Jacob has lived in Indianapolis for six years and currently resides with his wife and two kids in nearby Fletcher Place. He is a licensed attorney and works in health care compliance with Anthem, Inc. He enjoys living downtown and loves jogging or biking throughout the city, especially on the Cultural Trail. Jacob joined the SENSE School Board to continue being involved in the Southeastern community, and to assist SENSE in fulfilling its vision of academic and civic excellence.
Maria has lived in the Indianapolis area since early childhood. She currently resides in the area with her daughter. Maria currently works for Rolls-Royce Corporation. Maria has also worked in the public accounting field where she gained a fundamental understanding of audit, tax, and financial accounting. Maria has been a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the state of Indiana since 2007. Maria received her MBA in Financial Analysis and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, Bloomington. Currently, Maria serves as the Treasure of the School Board and the finance committee chair at SENSE.
Sarah is a former IPS science teacher and current parent of three SENSE students. She lives on the Near East side of Indianapolis with her husband, three children and two dogs. Sarah currently works as the director of GEAR-UP programs at Arsenal technical High School. Sarah has been involved in education, community development, and ministry in Indianapolis for over 15 years, and has served on the SENSE Board of Directors for the last 5 years.
Lee Lewellen serves as the President and CEO of the Indiana Economic Development Association. Lee served as the founding board chair when SENSE was formed in 2003 and served on the original board until 2007. An avid guitar player, he became re-engaged in SENSE with Mrs. Whittle’s guitar class and was asked to re-join the board in 2018. Lee lives in Carmel and is also a semi-professional photographer specializing in photos of historic Indiana architecture.
Rob has been a resident of the Bate-Hendricks Neighborhood for approximately 15 years. His 7-year-old son, Oliver, is currently a first grader at SENSE. Rob co-leads the SENSE environmental science club with Mrs. Johnson. Professionally, he is an Environmental Scientist and Human Health Risk Assessor for a global environmental consulting and engineering firm. He has served on the Bates-Hendricks board for over 12 years and the Southeast Neighborhood Development (SEND) board for over 6 years. Rob also coaches pee wee baseball for the Garfield RBI league and enjoys outdoor activitieswith his son and the 2-year-old German shorthaired pointer, Athens. Rob is passionate about the mission at SENSE and looks forward to working with the board and school staff to foster growth and continued excellence.
David joined the SENSE Board in July of 2018 and serves on the finance committee. David is presently employed with the Indiana Finance Authority, where he assists with debt management activities and managing public-private partnerships. Prior to IFA, he worked at the State of Indiana's Office of Management and Budget performing procedural and operational audits. David has resided in the Fountain Square neighborhood since early 2017.
Katherine has lived in Fountain Square for 7 years and works for an international membership association on IUPUI’s campus. Her favorite thing about Fountain Square are all the great restaurants, and she loves to burn off the calories by hiking at Eagle Creek. As a former Montessori educator, the opportunity to serve on the SENSE board was a perfect blend of her professional skills and passions, as well as a way to directly serve the community that she so loves.
