School Delays/Closings: Decision Process
To delay or close school is a decision made by the CEO/Head of School. Some of the key components that enter into making this decision for SENSE Charter School include:
Tracking weather data: Multiple sources of information are used before and during the weather events (snow, ice, extreme temperatures, fog, severe weather, etc.) when a delay or closure of school is possible. Analysis of the ongoing impact and duration of these weather events is included in the consideration of the information.
Assessing road and school sidewalk conditions: As early as 4:00 a.m., reports from our bus service provider and the Director of Operations & Student Services are in communication with the CEO/Head of School to provide road conditions around the school neighborhood.
Synthesizing all of the information gathered: Our bus provider, Director of Operations & Student Services, and CEO/Head of School review all information provided by the local media and conditions in the neighborhood. The CEO/Head of School then decides on whether or not school will be delayed, closed, or open as scheduled.
Sharing: Weather-related decisions are shared with parents/guardians and school staff as quickly as possible IF a decision is made to delay or close school. In the event that SENSE Charter School must be closed due to weather conditions, notification of parents will be made through ParentSquare to the contact information on file in PowerSchool. (Please notify the front office to make sure your information is up to date!) The school's social media platforms, website, and local media will also be updated.
