Students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade have two classrooms where a co-teaching model is utilized. This means that your child is receiving instruction from two licensed teachers during reading/language arts and mathematics instruction.
SENSE teachers instruct students using the Direct Instruction Model for teaching that emphasizes well-developed and carefully planned lessons designed around small learning increments and clearly defined and prescribed teaching tasks. Students receive a mini-lesson (10-15 minutes) whole-group where the teacher presents material on a specific skill. The students then break off into small groups practicing material with peers, and then finally completing the task independently demonstrating personal mastery of the standard. This approach allows students time to practice and process before being assessed.
